Sony is out again with a wonderful digital camera. Sony Europe unveils a new Alpha-mount camera that belongs to the SLT range.
Dubbed A68, the new camera from Sony is placed between the advanced A77II camera model and the A58 which is an entry-level. However, the A68 seemed to be more geared towards the A77II model because of its features that include the BIONZ X processor, ISO range of 100-25,600, 79-point 4D Focus system and 24MP APS-C sensor.

"The new A68 (ILCA-68) camera from Sony lets enthusiastic photographers discover even more creative opportunities with their precious collection of A-mount lenses," said Sony in a press release. "Inheriting many pro-style features from the acclaimed A77II, the A68 features Sony's unique 4D FOCUS system that delivers extraordinary AF performance under any shooting conditions - even in lighting as low as EV-2 where other cameras struggle."

With a maximum continuous shooting speed of 8 frames per second, the new A68 seemed to fall a little short of the 12fps found in the A77II. However, it's still considered as a decent shooting speed, something that is expected from a camera in the enthusiast-level. It also has a smaller rear screen which measures at 2.7 inches and a lower pixel resolution of 460,000.

Other notable features include 79 points (including 15 cross points) for Focus point, F2.8 AF sensor point, image sensor-shift mechanism, electronic viewfinder (OLED Tru-Finder), 100 percent field coverage, adjustable angle (approximately 135 and 55 degrees for up and down respectively), built-in stereo microphone, built-in monaural speaker, multi-micro USB terminal and rechargeable NP-FM500H battery. The dimensions are measured at approximately 142.6 by 104.2 by 80.9 millimeters (5.6 by 4.1 by 3.2 inches). It weighs approximately 610 grams (body) which could reach up to 690 grams if battery and media are included.

Sony touts the new A68 to come equipped with a fixed translucent mirror which allows the camera to perform quick shooting coupled with continuous use of accurate phase detection AF.
"The larger Exmor CMOS image sensor with approximately 24MP provides for high image resolution, delicate tonal gradation and expressive bokeh," said Sony. "And the BIONZ X featuring advanced image reproducing technologies processes vast data from the sensor at high speed for more realistic images."
"The duo is a perfect match for shooting in the wide ISO range of 100-25600 and producing beautifully sharp, clear results," Sony added.
The new A68 SLT camera will retail at approximately €600 (around $650) for only the body. The price goes up to €700 (around $760) if it will also include a 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II kit. The launch date is scheduled in March 2016.
